“Voters Say No to New Tisbury School Project”

With high voter turnout and after years of planning and debate, Tisbury voters narrowly turned down a $46.6 million project to build a new town elementary school at the town election Tuesday, sending school leaders back to the drawing board.

“Tisbury Voters Strongly Back $46.6 Million New School”

After two nights of emotionally charged debate, Tisbury voters approved a $46.6 million plan to build a new town elementary school by a wide margin at their annual town meeting Wednesday.

The standing vote was 319 to 99, easily gaining a needed two-thirds majority to pass. The school question still needs approval in the ballot box on April 24, when voters will be asked to exclude the debt from the Proposition 2 1/2 state tax cap. A simple majority vote is needed. (read more)

After two nights of emotionally charged debate, Tisbury voters approved a $46.6 million plan to build a new town elementary school by a wide margin Wednesday.

The vote was 319 to 99. The question still needs approval in the ballot box in two weeks when voters will be asked to exclude the debt from the Proposition 2 1/2 state tax cap. (read more)
